In a project like this, one cannot await to fully identify with each and every sigle shot. Maybe at least you will like it ;-)
No details on the abouts of this shot you will get out of me.

This is the bike(!) bridge in Walldorf, Baden, Germany. It crosses the B39 country road and links the Walldorf industrial area to "Walldorf for living" as it's called. This being the bike bridge, consider what they had build for a car bridge...
Been in Walldorf at the end of the day and the meeting was not over before darknes fell. Luckily I had a tripod with me. So I was able to do some long exposures like this. Note that I had to clone out a birke backlight, which I found to be a very attractive idea when reviewed on the cameras mini-screen, but which did not work out on my computer screen. Had I known this before, I had not needed to put the f-stop to high values to get the long exposure times needed to catch the bikes passing the bridge...
Still ill, still not dead. So only a quick impression about how this day was here around.
What to do? Another day disabled from work and hanging out at home. Light inside was poor because it did not really get bright outside over the day. When it was finally raining, the idea for this take came to my mind. It was not easy to get a frame with acceptable background. Had I a macro lens at my disposal, I had taken a single drop as an additional lens.
I was ill today and not able to speak nor to get out of the house. But since I was not dead, I managed to get a photo anyway ;-) Some hints are left in the image for the postprocessing that was applied. Do you find out?
Added later: Because no one did find out, I wil uncover the secret. It's three (actually four) shots taken in the morning, early afternoon and evening. They are overlayed to have bright sky, distinguishable houses and traces of light all at the same time. You could have found out by investigating the shadows of the roof of the biluding on the left.
Strange for a PaD take, but read the story behind here. But why not have a processing exercise on a day one cannot go out?
Please notice that the left part if the writing is properly shadowed...
No work today. So it will be comparatively easy to take a photo. It has become a habit during the last weeks to go to Bad Schönborn Tierpark every weekend to check out whether the new donkey had been born or not. Of course it was not...
Because I was equipped for the donkey, I only had the 17-55/2.8 lens with me (still have no bag where the telephoto lens fits in). So I was just fooling around.
I found this group of three Guinea Hens. They were chicken-hearted (in the best sense of the word) and escaping every visitor (i.e. beyong the range of a 55mm). But when they feel safe in the enclosure of the sheep they can be really a pain in the ass. Here the sheep was grazing but the hens came close and even under the sheep. When the sheep gently tried to push the hens out of the way, one of the hens punched the sheep's chin. Seemingly this was too much. Now they get dressed down...
While taking some 300+ experimental shots for todays picture, this came out to be the one of choice. Note that the photo shows a mirror...
What happened before? From time to time someone reminds me to Chris Marquart's Klo-assignment: lock yourself in the toilet or bathroom, take hundred shots and post the one you like most. These are the times when I grab my camera and s.th magically pulls me to the bathroom... Here my thanks go to this thread by Cathie.
In fact I was sitting in the (empty) bathtub for an hour or so to capture a nice reflection in a thing I don't even know the German word for. With the built-in flash hidden by the other hand, there was a nice lighting from below. But I had to find out that it's quite difficult to control the direction and focus of the lens and also the direction of the reflected flashlight and at the same time be myself nicely positioned in the reflective thingy.
As I was not sure about the quality of the outcome, I made this "safety take". Eva did like it so much that she actually made me taking it as the shot of the day. The camera was held freehand with estimated tilt and direction. Needed some tries also...
Some strange object located in a local rotary. Some find it cool (see here for an explanation, unfortunately in German only).
The next milestone: Will I get a picture for the day? Early sunset makes it more complicated. By chance I was taking another exit than usual, so I saw this strange piece of artwork. Maybe some minutes earlier with way lighter sky might have been better, but anyway: I did it!
The Kreiselkunst in Wiesloch is officially described as follows: In April 1997, citizens of Wiesloch founded a club to put high-quality contemporary art into public space. This is supposed to make a difference for the unique identity of their home town. A major objective of the club was to decorate the historic entries to the town with "kinetic" artwork.
Some passers-by, however, describe the situation as follows: Roundabouts pop up everywhere. And instead of just leaving them as they are and have a tree planted in the center, some strange metallic objects are installed. Fortunately, the kinetic things are way over your head so that they are not too invasive. The alternative, an oversized bunch of grapes at the third roundabout, did fail so miserably that it is not even possible to take a quality photo of it.
When you ever come to Wiesloch, you are sincerely invited to make up your own opinion. Find me in the Median at Adenauerplatz eventually when you need a beer to recover from the view...
This is a colleague of mine. Tell me from the image what is moving him at the very moment...
The first day of work. A touchstone for the Picture a Day project! So when you see no chance to leave office at daylight time, why not ask a collegue. And this guy was on the list anyway because is dtermined to leave my company for some new challenge (something with Psychology, I assume) and I want to have something to remind me on the time we were sitting next desk to each other.
For those of you who are comfortable with teh German language, this might be the right day to point you to Ehrensenf - not exactly a podcast, because there is no feed, but nevertheless a great piece of daily video satire delivered via the link. Should someone know Katrin...
The Hessischer Landtag (Parliament of the German federal state of Hesse) in Wiesbaden. Reflection in the doors of the New Town Hall which is located at opposite side of the Schlossplatz.
It's way more simple to get a take for the day, when you are somewhere else, I thought. But I had not taken into account that it was good ol' Wiesbaden we went to. It's hard in summer, but in winter... Finally we found the christmas decoration at the Schlossplatz being removed at that very time and when all the trucks were gone this beautiful reflection caught my eye.
As you can see from comparison of the posting date of this blog entry and the upload date from the flickr image, I am cheating. I decided to do a blog on Jan 27 and I have just taken up the heroic effort to make all my Pictures a Day available via the blog. I hope you will forgive me... The original postings to flickr are marked yellow.
